There has been little change in the area of outdoor street and area lighting since the move to electric-powered lighting in the early 1900’s. Today’s approaches consume too much expensive power from the grid, are costly to support and maintain while delivering relatively poor light quality. Today’s lighting is also responsible for releasing billions of tons of greenhouse gases annually.

In remote and developing markets, the infrastructure to support traditional outdoor lighting isn’t in place and the cost to establish it are prohibitively high.
