Inovus Solar™ Off-Grid Solar Light Pole

The Inovus Solar™ off-grid solar light pole is a self-contained outdoor light pole that utilizes solar energy to power an LED lighting system and produce long lasting, quality light off the power grid.

How the Inovus Solar™ off-grid light pole reduces energy costs:

  • Intelligent Power Management – the LEDs gives you the ability to manage light hours and intensity levels so you can save as much as 75% on energy consumption.
  • Solar Energy – The Inovus Solar™ off-grid pole is an off the grid solution – meaning all of its power is derived from the sun via the solar collector and the self-charging batteries so there is no more need for traditional electricity sources to power the light pole.

Driving down energy costs is a compelling benefit to adopting the Inovus Solar™ off-grid pole but there’s more:

  • Reduced Maintenance Costs – Inovus Solar™ utilizes an LED solid state lighting system which enjoys a 15 year life compared to the 3 year life of a traditional high pressure sodium light source so you spend much less time and money on bulb replacements.
  • Reduced Installation Costs – Since the Inovus Solar™ off-grid pole is self-contained, there is no need for expensive and often complex excavation and trenching for wiring which is especially important in adverse soil conditions such as granite.
  • Quality Light – The LEDs provide exceptionally clear and focused light quality which is why Inovus Solar™ is recognized by the Dark Sky initiative for its help in reducing light pollution.
  • Green and Clean Energy – Over a 25-year life, the energy generation of supporting a light pole emits at least ten tons of greenhouse gasses.  Alternatively, the Inovus Solar™ off-grid pole harnesses clean, sustainable energy from the sun.
  • Safety – Motion sensors provide an immediate override if a lamp is set to dim that brings the lamp to full power when people are approaching. The quality of light allows the viewer to see true colors and details masked by other lighting systems.
  • Cohesive Design – One significant concern with solar outdoor lighting has always been the poor aesthetics and performance in windy conditions associated with the large photo voltaic solar wing panel situated on top of a pole.. Designers, architects and planners have consistently rejected these older designs. By “skinning” the pole with a highly flexible solar collector (thin film), Inovus Solar™ has created a solar product that essentially looks like what people are accustomed to and perform better in areas with high wind and wind gust potential.

How It Works:

The major components of the Inovus Solar™ off-grid solar light pole include the solar collector skin, the batteries, and the intelligent controllers. The solar collector captures light during daytime hours and passes it onto the charge controller which manages the power from the solar collector and optimizes the stored power in the batteries. The batteries release power to the LED luminaires and other system electronics. The onboard computer monitors the health of all system components and modifies the system as conditions require. This computer is at the heart of making the amorphous solar collector work well even though it’s standing vertically.

Intellectual Property:

The original Inovus Solar™ patent covers the integrated thin-film on the pole with batteries inside the passively-cooled pole interior. This is the only solar pole that keeps the batteries and electronics cool – insuring maximum performance and long system life.

Additional patent applications have also been filed by Inovus Solar™. These include specific and important system features such as the energy management system, wireless monitoring and control, along with the grid-connected system.
The first patent issued on June 8, 2010 as U.S. Patent No. 7,731,383.
